training of JFMC members on micro-finance based income generating activities (IGAs) including value addition of NTFPs under
the NAP Scheme in Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya.
Tripura
In Tripura, the programme was organized at Bagafa in Bagafa Forest Development Agency in South Tripura district during 27th
to 29th December, 2007. The programme was inaugurated by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and was coordinated by
the Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests. Forty-five participants including Range Officers, Foresters, Forest
Guards, NGO representatives and JFMC Members from South Tripura district participated in the programme. The Additional PCCF, Conservator of Forests (Southern Circle), DFOs
of Udaipur and Bagafa, faculty members from the department of Rural Development, Tripura
University, Officers from the Department of Fisheries, Government of
Tripura and Financial Institutions acted as Resource Persons. Dr. V.T. Darlong, Natural Resource Management Coordinator, IFAD
Project, Shillong and Prof. S. K. Barik, Joint Coordinator of Regional Centre, NAEB, Shillong also participated as Resource
Persons for the entire period of the training programme. Besides classroom presentations, field exercises were conducted in
two cluster villages demonstrating the value addition of bamboos for incense sticks. Large number of JFMC members participated
in the programme during field visit.
Nagaland
The programme was held at the Conference Hall of State Institute of Rural Development, Kohima during 25-26 September,
2007. The programme was inaugurated by Mr. Panger Jamir, CCF, Nagaland. The Resource Persons in this programme were senior
level forest officers of the state, faculty members of School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development (SASRD), Nagaland
University, an officer from the project operating unit of Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Development (NEPED),
DGM from NABARD and Assistant Director Handicrafts, Kohima. Forty participants including grassroots level forest officials
and JFMC members attended the programme. Two practical training sessions on pickle and jam making were arranged for young
entrepreneurs using locally available fruits and seeds. One session was also organized for the trainees on the methods of
Button and Oyster Mushroom cultivation.
The following
topics were discussed by the resource persons by way of classroom lectures :

Meghalaya
A two-day workshop on cluster based action programme on small and medium forest based enterprises (SMFE) was
held at Science Hall, D.C. Office Complex, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya during 19th and 20th March,
2008. The welcome address was given by Prof. S. K. Barik, Joint Coordinator of Regional Centre, NAEB, NEHU, Shillong who also
briefed about the aims and objectives of the programme. Mr. P. S. Nongbri, DFO, Ri-Bhoi district felicitated the gathering.
The keynote address was delivered by Prof. B. K. Tiwari, Coordinator, Regional Centre, NAEB who elaborated the activities
of NAP and Regional Centre, NAEB. The speeches were delivered by Mr. S. F. Khongwir, Deputy
Commissioner, Ri-Bhoi, Mr. C. Budnah, CCF and Mr. S. Kumar, CCF, Meghalaya. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks given
by Mr. P. S. Nongbri, DFO, Ri-Bhoi. The Branch Manager of NEDFi, Shillong, Director of Rural Resource Training Centre (RRTC),
Umran, NRM Coordinator and M & E Officer, IFAD Project , Shillong, Meghalaya, Rural Development Society (MRDS), Shillong,
Specialist Officer of Agricultural Credit, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd., Shillongand the Coordinator, the Joint Coordinator
and the Research Officer of RC, NAEB were the resource persons for the workshop. The Business Development Strategy plan for
two cluster of Ri-Bhoi district was presented by Mr. Manoj Singh, Chandel Agritech Solutions Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi.

Recommendations :
v Training of trainers on microplanning and accounting should be arranged
at FDA level more frequently for the success of the project.
v Value addition of NTFPs like bamboo, mushroom etc. should be an integral
part of the project and the required skill development training should be imparted to JFMC/SHG members of the FDA.
v Development
of entrepreneurial skills among SHG members was also recommended as an activity for the FDAs.
